How to use it well

From blank fields to a plan you can use.

The tool creates the structure. These steps help you give it inputs that survive an ordinary week.

  1. 1

    Define one action

The tracker is clearest when every mark refers to the same primary promise.

  2. 2

    Add the cue and minimum

Print the setup beside the grid so you do not have to reconstruct the contract on a difficult day.

  3. 3

    Mark the same day

Record Done, Minimum, Missed, or Rest while the event is fresh. Leave Open only for days that have not yet been decided.

  4. 4

    Keep categories honest

A minimum is not a full action, planned rest is not a miss, and a miss does not need to be erased.

  5. 5

    Review returns, not just totals

At Day 30, look at how quickly you returned, which cues worked, and when the minimum protected the plan.

Worked examples

See what a useful answer looks like.

A normal completion

Starting point

Read for the full 20 minutes

Useful result

Mark Done and keep the normal cue tomorrow.

A difficult but active day

Starting point

Read one page using the defined fallback

Useful result

Mark Minimum. The record stays honest and the full action returns at the next normal cue.

A missed cue

Starting point

No reading action happened

Useful result

Mark Missed. Return at the next cue without filling the day retroactively.

Common mistakes

Leaving misses blank

Better: Use Open for the future and Missed for a completed day when the action did not happen.

Marking a minimum as full

Better: Keep the categories separate so the review teaches you something.

Tracking several habits in one grid

Better: Use one promise per tracker or separate pages.

Judging only the completion percentage

Better: Review context, returns, minimum use, and whether the action remains worthwhile.

Questions about this tool

Does the tracker save my marks?

Yes. The plan and marks are saved locally on this device so a refresh does not erase them. They are not submitted to 30DayHero. Print or save as PDF for a portable copy, and use Reset to remove the local tracker.

Why separate minimum from done?

The minimum preserves contact with the practice, but separating it from the full action keeps the record accurate enough to review.

Should planned rest count against me?

No. Mark Rest when it was part of the contract or required for safety. Do not invent it after the fact merely to hide a miss.

What should I review at Day 30?

Look at completion, minimum use, misses, return speed, reliable cues, recurring obstacles, safety, and whether the challenge deserves another Arc.

Evidence note

Does monitoring goal progress promote goal attainment?

Harkin et al., 2016 meta-analysis of experimental evidence. Product recommendations remain 30DayHero design choices, not guarantees.
